The Julian Alps in Slovenia are among the finest hiking areas in Central and Eastern Europe. None of the 150 mountain huts in Slovenia is more than five hours walk from the next. The huts in the higher regions are open from July to September, and shares not so high from June to October. You will always find warmth in bad weather, but the huts on Triglav get very crowded at weekends, especially in August and September. Meals are also available, so you do not need to bring lots of luggage but warm clothing, sturdy boots and a good physical condition are essential.
The best months to hike are August to October, although over 1500m you can meet the conditions of winter. Better to follow the tracks that are clearly marked with a red circle and a white center, and never travel alone.
